Groceries for the Week

Privacy Policy

Last updated 27 September 2026

The short version. We collect nothing, we run no servers, and there is no account. Your meal plans and shopping lists stay on your iPhone. The app connects to recipe websites to fetch recipes, and to Apple for the optional one-time purchase — neither connection carries your name, your plans or any identifier tied to you.

What we collect

Nothing. There is no account, no login, no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising identifier, no tracking of any kind, and no third-party SDK. The app asks for no access to your location, contacts, camera, microphone or photo library.

We do not know that you have installed this app, we do not know when you use it, and we cannot see anything you enter into it.

What the app stores on your device

Everything in this section is held on your iPhone, and we never receive a copy.

Your one-time purchase is held by Apple against your Apple Account, not by us.

What leaves your device

Recipe searches. To find recipes, the app sends requests directly from your iPhone to public recipe websites. When you add a dish, the request contains the name of the dish you searched for, the same as typing it into that website's own search box. It does not contain your name, your plan, your family size or any identifier tied to you. The app keeps no cookies from these websites, and fetched pages are held only in memory while the app is open.

Discover suggestions. To fill the Discover tab, the app makes searches of its own — a cuisine and a kind of dish, such as "thai curry", or a dish that is popular at the moment. Some of these searches are for other ways to cook the main ingredients you plan most often, such as "chicken tacos" if you often cook chicken. Which ingredients those are is worked out on your iPhone, from your own past weeks, each time Discover loads; the result is not stored and is not sent anywhere. The website receives only the short search phrase — never your plans, the dishes you chose, or anything that identifies you. Recipes you have already planned, and recipes containing an ingredient you excluded, are filtered out on your iPhone too.

If you paste a recipe link, the app fetches that one page, the same way Safari would. Recipe photos are loaded from the website that published the recipe.

Like any website you visit, those websites can see your device's IP address when it connects to them. They are independent third parties with their own privacy policies, outside our control. Every recipe in the app links back to its source page.

The one-time purchase. When you open the unlock screen, the app asks Apple's in-app purchase service what the item costs and whether you already own it. That is an exchange between your iPhone and Apple under your own Apple Account, like any other App Store purchase, and it carries nothing about your plans or lists.

Nothing else leaves your device. The project has no third-party code, and the app's bundled Apple privacy manifest declares no tracking, no tracking domains and no collected data types.

Photos

If you choose to import a recipe from a photo or screenshot, iOS lets you pick that one image and gives the app only that image — the app never gets access to the rest of your photo library. The text is read on your iPhone using Apple's built-in text recognition. Only the recognised recipe text is kept, after you review it; the image itself is not stored and is never sent anywhere.

Sharing your shopping list

If you tap Share, the app hands the list's text to the standard iOS share sheet, and you choose where it goes — Messages, Notes, email or anywhere else. Nothing is shared unless you do this.

Device backups

If you have iCloud Backup or encrypted local backups switched on, your iPhone may include this app's local data in those backups, in the same way it does for other apps. That is handled entirely by iOS under your own Apple Account settings; the app neither requests it nor has any access to it.

Deleting your data

There is no "request my data" or "delete my account" process, because there is no account and no server holding anything to delete.

Your purchase is the one thing deleting the app does not undo: it is held by Apple against your Apple Account, so reinstalling lets you restore it without paying again.

Children

The app is rated 4+ and suitable for a general audience. It does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children, because it does not collect information at all.

Changes to this policy

If this policy ever changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it. If a future version of the app works differently — for example, fetching recipes through a licensed recipe service instead of directly from websites — this page will say so before that version ships.

Who publishes this app

Gabe Bud Investments Limited, a company incorporated in Hong Kong, contactable at info@gabebud.com.

If the law of the country where you live gives you data protection or consumer rights you cannot contract out of, or the right to bring a claim in your own courts, you keep them — nothing here takes them away. Otherwise this policy is governed by the law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and you and we agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Hong Kong.

Because we hold no copy of anything you enter, we are not in a position to access, correct, export or erase your data — there is nothing on our side to act on. Everything is on your own device, and the steps under "Deleting your data" above are the complete answer.
